Joyce Ann Young

Joyce Ann Young passed away on June 21, 2023 at 84 years old.

She was born September 19, 1938 to parents James A. Shane and Thessel M. (Weirich) Shane in Wayne County, Ohio. She was raised by her mother and her loving step-father Lawrence Smith.

Joyce is survived by her children Janelle Barber of Mansfield, Ohio, Steven (Martha) Young of Muskegon, Michigan, Michael (Dottie) Young of Modesto, California, and Amanda (Mark) Illes of Valley City, Ohio, siblings Nellie Richey, Sharon Wright, Carol Book, Jeremy Shane, and Tim, grandchildren Dennis Steward, Jr., Amanda Steward, Michael Sparks, Jessica Young, Robert McGee, Scott McGee, April Young, Alrene Young, Christopher Illes, and Rebecca Illes, as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings Vonda Lahmon, James Shane, Mary Sue Carpenter, Phyllis Shane, Cherie Shilling, Wayne Smith, Connie Spitler, Melvin Cutlip, son-in-law Floyd Barber, and her beloved Jazzy Bird.

She was a homemaker for many years as well as a bus driver for New Hope, a beautician, a florist, and enjoyed painting and doing crafts. She loved raising birds (affectionately knowns as the Bird Lady), going for rides in the country, and 420. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
