Elizabeth Irene Patterson

Elizabeth “Irene” Patterson, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 18, 2023.

Irene was born on July 31, 1925, in Fredericktown, to Howard and Minnie (Litt) Gilmore. She graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1943. Irene was a member of Lincoln Heights Baptist Church and she volunteered at MedCentral chaplain services for many years. Irene loved her family, and at an early age, she was the sole parent of her children. A tragic car accident in October 1959, caused the death of her beloved husband, Marion E. Patterson, who was only 35 years old at the time of his passing. She had driven past the accident on her way to work and did not even know that it was Marion.  This accident was devastating to her, as he was the love of her life, and his death impacted the rest of her life.

She is survived by her children, Dean L. Patterson of Mansfield, Steven (Debra) Patterson of Mansfield, Marlene L. Patterson of Santa Rosa, California, and Edna Bohannon of Santa Rosa, California; grandchildren, Katie (Andrew) Willis and Brian; and great-grandchildren, Hayley, Brianna, and Grace.

Along with her beloved husband, Marion, Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Elaine Reese.

Calling hours will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2023, at Werner-Gompf Funeral Services, ltd, 1106 Park Avenue East, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owl Creek Cemetery, Ankneytown.
