Gary Cooper

Gary Alfred Cooper age 69, resident of Mansfield, died peacefully Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Ohio Health Mansfield.

Born January 2, 1954 in Grayson, KY to Jim and Opal (Frazier) Cooper, he had been an area resident for the majority of his life. A graduate of Carter High School in Kentucky, he work for Artesian and Crane Pluming for over 30 years before being employed with Cardington Yutaka where he later retired. 

A lover of electronics and tinkering, he enjoyed going to garage sales, or any sales for that matter. His passion for music was passed on to anyone who knew him. He had dad jokes for days, and would talk to anyone who was in passing. Gary was easy to make friends with, and to know him was to love him. He will be deeply missed by many.

He is survived by his children; Heather (Joe) Crose of Mansfield and Michael Shawn Cooper of Ashland, grandchildren; Bailé “Beetle” R. and Mckenzie “McKay” Kay Crose; one great-granddaughter on the way Ulahni Yvonne; siblings, Dempsey Cooper of Ft. Meade, FL, Don Cooper of Olive Hill, KY, and Albert Cooper of Grayson, KY; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his immediate family, Gary had a huge heart and loved several kids that were not his own over the years, including Taryn, Tiff and Trevor Utt all of Mansfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers Howard Glen Cooper and Winston Cooper, and two sisters Loretta Jean Cooper, and Mary (Bill) Carper. 

Friends may visit at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory in Shelby Monday, June 19, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, the following day, at 1:00 PM at the Cooper Family Cemetery in Vanceburg, KY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory to help offset funeral costs.
