Most can’t tell because of the brown patches in their yards which were recently green.

But July is usually one of the wettest months of the year in Ohio, according to the National Weather Service office in Cleveland, which says a normal July provides around 4.4 inches of precipitation.

A return to normalcy is in the offing in the next few days — though searing heat and high humidity will ride along with the rain clouds just for typical Buckeye State fun.

In case you wondered, July is also usually the hottest month in Ohio with an average high temp of around 82 degrees.

The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook for all of north central Ohio today and tonight as  thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of a cold front this afternoon.

Some thunderstorms could become severe with damaging winds being the primary weather hazard.

Hot and humid conditions arrive this weekend with heat indices expected to top 100 degrees.

Here is the forecast:

Thursday — A chance of showers before 11 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. Southwest wind 7 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday night — A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday — Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. West wind 3 to 5 mph.

Friday night — Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Calm wind.

Saturday — A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night — A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday — A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 94. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Sunday Night — A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
