UPDATE: 26-year-old Ashland shooting victim identified

ASHLAND — The Ashland County Coroner’s Office has identified 26-year-old Timothy Maust as the man killed in a shooting Monday night at Almond Tree Inn in Ashland. 

Four people are in police custody Tuesday following the shooting, which killed Maust and injured a 28-year-old female. 

Ashland Police responded to the short-term apartment complex at 1423 Cleveland Avenue at 11:46 p.m. Monday after three 911 callers reported hearing gunshots.

One of the callers told a dispatcher that someone was trying to break into an apartment, and that a male had been shot in unit 8. 

Maust was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 28-year-old female was transported to University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center. The woman’s condition was not made available.

Maust’s body was taken to Cuyahoga County for an autopsy, according to an investigator from the Ashland County Coroner’s Office. Though the office is not yet releasing a cause of death or details about the location of the wound, the investigator confirmed Maust had been shot. 

The Ohio Bureau of Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called to process the scene and assist Ashland Police in the investigation. 

Police officers and detectives, with assistance from Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, arrested a 19-year-old male, two 17-year-old males and a 16-year old male, according to a news release from Ashland Police Chief Dave Marcelli. 

The 19-year old is being held at the Ashland County Jail and the juveniles have been taken to juvenile detention facilities in Richland and Erie counties. 

No charges have been yet been filed, but the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case.

Maust was struck by a car while jaywalking on East Main Street in Ashland in October 2018, Ashland Source previously reported. 

Almond Tree Inn has been the site of other criminal activity in the past. 

In March 2017, six people were arrested during a METRICH drug raid at the apartment complex.

A month earlier, a man was found dead from an overdose at the apartments. Two people were convicted of involuntary manslaughter in that case.
