OLIVESBURG — Nicole Fulk and Quinn Wright were this year’s recipients of the Clayton Blust Award at Crestview Middle School.

The Clayton Blust Award is presented to one male and one female 8th grader that displays leadership, honor and strong character in and out of the classroom. These students are of exemplary quality and are positive role models for the younger students in the school. This award is named after an outstanding educator that taught at Crestview for many years.

Nicole is the daughter of Karen Keener. She was a member of the cross country, basketball and track teams her 7th and 8th grade year. She also participated in student government and plays soccer and softball.

“The Clayton Blust award is a huge honor. I’ve always looked up to those who have received it in the past,” Nicole said. “It inspires me to continue to do my best and work hard. I try to be kind and help everyone.”

She would like to thank all of her teachers, coaches, teammates and classmates.

“Mrs. McFarland, Mrs. Kidney and Mrs. Grandy have always pushed me to be my best on and off the ‘field’ I would also like to thank my mom because she pushed me, teaches me to always be kind, have an open mind,” Nicole said. “My teammates have always been amazing and inspire me. I’ve looked up to all of them and hope that I’ve given them someone to do the same to.”

Quinn Wright is the son of Jerry and Shelby Wright, sister to Maggie. His interest are roller coasters and history. He is a member of the St. Peter’s church and volunteers walking dogs at local shelters.

“To receive this award is both a momentous and joyful experience for myself. I am very glad my hard work in school has paid off so well,” Quinn says. “Every day in school I try to be positive and nice to everyone and I try to think of all my peers in a good light.

“I also try to be my own person and I strive to be an independent and original person.”

Quinn would like to thank her parents, sister and extended family and my friends at school.
