ASHLAND – A new wellness community center is being added to the Brethren Care Village on Ohio 60.

A groundbreaking for the 40,000-square-foot center took place Tuesday morning on the campus. The center will provide market-rate housing on the second floor, senior services including lunch-and-learn programs as well as out-patient therapy, a bistro, a pub and warm-water therapy.

“This is going to change how we view seniors in a way that lifts up and honors their life,” said CEO Troy Snyder.

Brethren Care addition

Simonson Construction of Ashland will start on the $6-million project in about two weeks and it is estimated to take about one year to complete.

“We’re so humbled by this opportunity. A year from now we’ll be able to show you what we’re talking about, but the culture of senior care is going to change in Ashland forever,” Snyder said.

The CEO said Brethren Care plans to hire at least five employees for the new center.

“Since 1972 when Brethren Care first started and had their first facility here, look what has happened. It’s amazing,” Ashland Mayor Duane Fishpaw said.

Brethren Care Village offers a wide range of senior care and services including skilled nursing, rehabilitation, memory care, assisted living and independent living condominiums. The village currently is made up of Brookwood Place, Wasen Rehabilitation Center, Belmont Tower, Bloomfield Condominiums, Bradford House and the Health Care Center.
