ASHLAND — High winds that ripped through North Central Ohio Tuesday night left behind a trail of fallen tree branches — in several cases fallen trees — and many residents without power.
At 11:30 a.m., the Ohio Edison website reported around 400 customers were still without power in Ashland County. At one point, more than 4,000 homes lost power.
Ashland Police reported several incidents of trees being blown over by the winds, which gusted up to 48 mph in the area according to the National Weather Service.Â
A tree next to Ashland University’s Jack and Deb Miller Chapel was knocked over in the storm. According to Rick Ewing, vice president of facilities management and planning, the chapel only sustained minor roof damage when the tree fell. Trees were also knocked down on the campus’ Fraternity Circle.
