MANSFIELD – A 29-year-old Mansfield man was arrested Wednesday on child pornography charges.
According to a press release from the Mansfield Division of Police, Mitchell Owens is charged with pandering sexual oriented matter involving a minor, a second-degree felony.
Following a thorough investigation, detectives discovered that obscene material involving minors was being downloaded and disseminated from an address on Dianewood Drive. After executing a search warrant at the house, numerous illegal weapons were seized and evidence was collected.
Owens is being held at the Richland County Jail and further charges are pending from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Child Exploitation Task Force Canton Office and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the arrest.
Mansfield Police Lt. Robert Skropits said, “This was great work done by all involved. We take the safety of our citizens seriously, especially our young citizens and will not tolerate any of them being preyed upon.”
