MANSFIELD — Fire Chief Mark Sieving said there were no injuries in a house fire reported Thursday.

“We could see flames on the second floor, you could see it from the window on the other side of the house,” Sieving said as he pointed to the structure that appeared to be abandoned.

Mansfield Fire Department responded to a fire at 110 W. Fourth St. after receiving multiple calls from the surrounding area. The chief thought the department would “be at it all night,” judging from the flames.

House Fire

“This type of building was built probably right around in the ’20s or ’30s so it’s balloon construction,” Sieving said, “which means that your wall studs run from the foundation to the attic, so the fire can go right up through there.”

He said often in buildings like this one the fire can go undetected.

Firefighters doused the blaze in about 25 minutes.

The start of the fire remains under investigation.
