LEXINGTON, Ohio — Students were delighted to go to school Friday evening, yes, delighted. Not only were they happy to go, they went to school to do math.

Eastern Elementary School hosted Disney Decimal Night for fifth and sixth grades—an evening of performing decimal math along with some Disney fun.

“The fifth and sixth grades both do decimals so we tried to find a family night, a community night, that we could come together and do this, so we came up with Disney Decimal, Coordinator Jennifer Berry said.

“Basically, we have 22 different stations and the stations are different games and they each are a Disney actual ride. So like Expedition Everest or Splash Mountain are all based on Disney rides but they all actually have a decimal game in them.”

From the games, students earn tickets and then they can spend those tickets in Bippety Boppety Boutique or Goofy’s Candy Company or for cotton candy or popcorn. Everything was free, expect for the $1 raffle tickets for prize baskets. Parents and teachers work together to provide the free activities and prizes.

High school Leo Club, National Honor Society, Student Council and other high school students operate the stations so that parents, who might normally be called on to volunteer, are able to spend the evening with their children.

Berry said some students even teach their parents to do decimals. Perhaps those students will have future engineering or technical careers. Last night, though, hundreds of parents and students visited the school for the Disney fun event.
