The Mansfield Christian Lady Flames (MCS) hosted the East Knox Lady Bulldogs. Mansfield Christian lost to East Knox in overtime, 42-40.

In a tightly contested league match, East Knox jumped out to an early 10-6 first quarter lead early and made the Lady Flames play catch up all night. The Flames fought back to enter halftime down by a point, 18-17. 

The Lady Bulldogs came right back out and entered the fourth frame ahead, 34-29. Mansfield Christian made a charge in the fourth quarter to knot the game at 40.

A single basket in overtime put East Knox over the top in the Mid-Buckeye Conference matchup.

Freshman Mattea Forshey of East Knox led all scorers with 17 points and powered the Lady Bulldogs to an overtime win.

Senior Emily Smith led the Lady Flames with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Katie Ritz and Addie Daugherty had 9 rebounds each.

After going 3-12 in 2012-2013, the Lady Flames are building forward. Mansfield Last year’s squad averaged under 30 points per game and did not break 40 points until January 21, 2013. In the 2013-2014 team’s first year under a new system, The Lady Flames have only scored less than 30 once. The scoring increase has the program looking ahead to better things.

First year head coach J.R. Wilson believes increased familiarity with the new system will pay dividends. “I think the second half of the season is definitely going to be better for us,” he said.

Up next, the Lady Flames will travel to the Franciscan Activity Center to play the St Peter’s Lady Spartans for a 7 p.m. matchup on Dec. 23.
