Jared Mansfield Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held a special Veteran’s Day salute on Sunday, Nov. 10 for eight veterans.

Those honored include Larry Horton (Navy), Paul Kling (Army National Guard), Bruce Brachna (Army) Alvin Reinhart (Army), Woody Hill (Air Force), Jim Milligan (Army), Mike Strater (Navy) and Jeff Merrill (Army) and one woman, Vicki Danielson (Army). They all reside at Dayspring Assisted Living Facility.

Members attending were Pat Bender, Joanie Wyatt, Janet Grogoza, Camilla Perrill, Nancy Kreiger, Juanita Baker, and Pat Jennings. Also attending were Frank Russo, President of Korean War Veterans; Bruce Phipps, President of the Mansfield Community Memorial & Patriot Assoc.; Denny Hempfield, Veterans Day Parade Marshall; and Robert McKown, SAR President.

DAR Service for Veteran Chair Pat Bender welcomed everyone who came to thank the veterans who live at Dayspring.

Russo led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. The Choral Group of the First Methodist Church of Mansfield sang the Star Spangled Banner with pianist and Choral Director Paul Dawson. Pam Hunt, Malabar Middle School Music Teacher, sang two solos.

Janet Grogoza, Chapter National Defense Chairman, asked each veteran to share their own stories–whether they enlisted on their own or were drafted, how long they served, and where they served–with the members of Jared Mansfield Chapter and guests. She then thanked all the veterans on behalf of everyone attending.

Each veteran received a “Thank You for Your Service” gift bag provided by chapter members. Chapter members served refreshments.

DAR is dedicated to historical preservation, promotion of education and patriotic endeavors.
