The Crestview Cougars hosted the Mansfield Christian Flames. Home turf provided little advantage for the Cougars, as the Flames picked up a 7-0 victory.
The Flames scored early and never looked back. Lydia Eichorn led scoring with solo take on the dribble, 18 yard shot, and a header off of a corner kick. Â She would add a fourth goal on a 22 yard penalty kick late in the second half. Laci Diley, Ellen Wilson, and Allie Maiyer would add a goal each for the Flames 7 goals.
“We have been struggling a little bit to use our flanks, use the width of the pitch well, said Flames head coach Jammi McClade, “We really wanted to work on that, as well as getting balls served into the box so we could get a head on finishing and we were able to accomplish a couple times.”
In the second half, the Cougars would sneak into MCS territory several times, but the Flames defense consistently turned them to into the teeth of a swarming midfield and defensive front.
“We need better first touches,” said Crestview coach Lee Hunt, “It shot us in the foot. We were able to get to the balls a lot, but misplayed them and they just picked up everything we lost.” The coach also noted that he would like to see his relatively young team “keep their head up” and execute game plans through tough losses.
The Flames enjoy the leadership 8 seniors. McClade noted that she hopes to see a continued gelling of her team for a solid mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen.Â
The Crestview Cougars season stands at 1-4-1. The Flames move to 4-1-1.
Crestview will take on Hillsdale next.
Mansfield Christian’s soccer program continues to enjoy a hot week. Following a boys varsity win against Loudonville on Tuesday. Saturday, the Lady Flames will play Clear Fork, Thursday night’s 11-0 victors over Mansfield Senior.
