Gerald Joseph “Jerry” Mencl, 70

Gerald Joseph “Jerry” Mencl, 70 of Nova passed away on Friday afternoon, March 8, 2024 in University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center.

He was born on January 18, 1954 in Cleveland the son of the late, Jaroslav and Mildred L. (nee Erbe) Mencl.
Jerry graduated from Independence High School, Class of 1972.

He married the love of his life, the former Theresa A. Kacperski on October 21, 1989.

Jerry retired after more than 40 years as a union bricklayer and owner operator of Mencl Construction in 2018, a company his father founded, and his son continues to operate today. He was a devoted member of Bricklayers Local 5 all his career.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Eagles Aerie #2178. Jerry loved working on his farm raising cows and pigs, but most of all fishing and planting and harvesting his vegetable garden.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mrs. Theresa Mencl of Nova; one daughter, Brandy (Christopher) Rennu of Ashland; three sons, Jerry (Heather) Mencl of Nova, Paul Mencl and Mason Mencl, both of Kannapolis, North Carolina; three grandchildren, James Setlock of Ashland, and Penny Rose and Claire Violet Mencl of Nova; two sisters, Joanie Mencl of Independence and Marsha (Larry) Nall of Independence; and one brother, Michael (Barbara) Mencl of Edinburg, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Jack’s Place, 508 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 with Reverend Kevin McClain and Reverend Doug Lang presiding. Interment will be in the Nova Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Jack’s place.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice with the intention that Jerry lived his life by giving to those in need.
