MANSFIELD — The Tygers will not go hungry this weekend.

Community businesses and organizations have donated meals and snacks and financial donations to the team ahead of Friday’s 3 p.m. state championship football game in Canton at Tom Benson Stadium. Senior High (13-1) will face Trotwood-Madison (11-3) for the Division III state championship.

“My heart is full this morning for the Mansfield Tyger Football team and the outpouring of donations received in the last 72 hours,” school board member Linda S. Golden said in a social media post. 

The donations will aid the team on their way to the big game, she said.

Chef Dre’von Wilson prepared and donated the entree for the Tygers’ team meal Thursday. Rightway FoodService from Lima, and Don Boger who operates concessions for the home games are preparing the salad for the team meal. 

Sam’s Club in Ontario decorated and provided a cake with “FINISH” iced on top.

The Tygers will leave for Canton on Thursday evening.

Gionino’s Pizzeria and its owner, Roger Nelson, donated 70 subs for dinner Thursday night while the team is in Canton. Subway in Mansfield is donating 30 turkey sub sandwiches for dinner Thursday night, too. Two Cousin’s Pizzeria owner Andrew McIntre is also donating 60 subs for the Tygers Thursday night meal.

Jones Potato Chip owner, Bob Jones, is donating cases of chips for the team while in Canton.

The Tyger Booster Club is donating cases of Powerade and fruit snack for the team while in Canton.

The Booster Club has also rented two parking lots near the stadium to provide 80 free parking places for parents and fans. Parking passes can be picked up at the high school concession stand from 3 to 6:30 p.m.

Katy Endsley posted on her Facebook page that 110 students signed up for the Spirit Bus.

“There were so many monetary donations from people that we are able to send 110 students for FREE to the game,” said Kelly Parker, of Mansfield City Schools. “We have such a great community!”

MCD Sports owner, Mike Van Dyne is providing undisclosed monetary support.

“Let’s go Tygers,” Golden said. “This community is behind you all the way and is so proud of your history-making team.”
