Fred Joe Galco, Sr., of Mansfield, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 13, 2024, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital at the age of 76,

Born September 28, 1947, in Logan, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Austie Jewell (Cheek) and Joseph Galco. Fred was a veteran of the US Army and owned D & D Tool Grinding. He previously worked at Peabody Barnes for several years. He was a member of Owls #1152, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #2511, Amvets Post #26, and Fraternal Order of the Eagles #336.

Fred loved his family dearly. Dancing with his wife and hanging out with his three sons were some of his favorite ways to spend his time. He enjoyed being around people and loved the company of his dogs, Whiskey and Bailey. In his free time, he enjoyed golf, softball and bowling.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 42 years, Lillian “Lil” Reader Galco; three sons, Fred (Kathie) Galco Jr., Eric (Mary) Galco and Darrin Galco; five grandchildren, Derek (Olivia) Galco, Kyle (Brianna) Galco, Mason Galco, Morgan Galco and Hailey (Kris) Hollenback; eight great-grandchildren, Riley, Kinsley, Ava, Chloe, Finley, Justun, Cataleya and McKenna; a brother, Jim (Linda) Townsend; three nephews, Johnny, Jimmy and Travis; and a niece, Andrea.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren, Cayde and Hudson; and a sister, Cookie Green.

The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024, at Wappner Funeral Directors-Ontario, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by Pastor Brian Phillips will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 1:00 p.m. Military honors will be presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. He will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park.
