Marga Jane Schmidt of Perrysville, Ohio, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2024 at the age of 9 5 at The Inn at Ashland Woods Assisted Living Residence.
Marga was born on June 12, 1928, in East Prussia, to Emil and Marie Lojek. In 194 7 she married William E. Schmidt in Bispingen, Germany. They came to the United States on January 25, 1954, and lived in Mansfield. After earning US citizenship for her family, one of Marga’s greatest joys was the celebration of annual Christian and National holidays with family and friends. While in Mansfield they were members of Grace Brethren Church and she worked for the JC Penney company. In 1964, William, a meat cutter by trade, and Marga established a Perrysville grocery store, Schmidt’s Meats and Groceries. They became members of the Perrysville Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing and being connected with her faith family community.
After being retired for several years, Marga enjoyed employment with the Kroger Company as a Food Demonstrator. Marga often remarked that of her many life experiences, this was her favorite, as she enjoyed meeting so many wonderful people.
Marga loved to entertain her family with dinners and picnics. She also enjoyed many hobbies including reading, good music, knitting, working on her computer, watching Cleveland Browns football and staying inf armed with the news. Marga had beautiful flowers and wonderful vegetable gardens that she enjoyed sharing. Mowing grass was not a chore for her, as she enjoyed riding her John Deere mower and being out in the nice clean country air.
Marga is survived by three sons: Ed (Mary) Schmidt of Mansfield, Bill (Pat) Schmidt of Lexington, and Steve Schmidt of Perrysville; four grandchildren: Brian (Krista) Schmidt, Terri (Darren) Hamilton, Christopher Schmidt, and Mathew Schmidt; six great-grandchildren: William Hamilton, Evan Hamilton, Ella Schmidt, Wade Hamilton, Jakob Schmidt and Amelia Hamilton; a sister, Ruth Theofield of Clearwater, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Marga was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, William in 1980; son Harold Bernd Schmidt of Loudenville in 2003; siblings Gretchen Lojek Gronewald, Manfred and Otto Lojek of Germany. Marga will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and friends. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
Services for Marga will be held privately for her family at Greenlawn Cemetary in Perrysville.
The family would like to acknowledge special thanks to the staff at The Inn at Ashland Woods for their outstanding care and compassion shown to Marga, as well as Gentiva Hospice for their dedicated compassion and care.
