Altrusa of Mansfield
Altrusa is an International Service Organization that strives to better the communities in which they reside.
Locally, Altrusa provides over 125,000 school supplies each year to Richland County teachers for children in need with the Tools for Schools project.
All first grade classrooms in public schools across the county are visited each month by an Altrusa member who reads to the students and gives each student a book to take home.
Over 1,100 books are placed in the hands of students each month with this First Read to Succeed project. Altrusa sponsors two Little Free Libraries in the county, downtown and at Third Street Family Services.
Financial support is given to Mansfield and Madison adult education programs, and a graduating senior in Mansfield City Schools receives a scholarship to help support advanced education.
Altrusa also supplies “Buddy Bags” filled with toys, books, hygiene supplies and snacks for students identified as homeless through the S.A.F.E. program in Mansfield City Schools.
Altrusa members volunteer at the dressing days at the Free Store, collect coats and winter items in collaboration with the Optimist Club, sort books for the Big Red Bookshelf, a program of United Way, and much more.
Altrusa is also a supporting partner in Story Book Walk planned from the Carrousel to the Buckeye Imagination Museum.
Altrusa of Mansfield was recognized as the Richland Area Chamber Small Non-Profit of the Year for 2022, for the great work done in the community.
The Altrusa Club has impacted thousands of lives in a positive and transformational way.
