PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is investigating a Plymouth Township drowning that took place on Saturday night.

Stephanie O’Grady, chief of ODNR’s office of communications issued the following statement Sunday evening:

ODNR issues latest statement Sunday evening

“The Ohio Department of Natural resources (ODNR) is investigating a drowning at Mackey’s Pond in Plymouth Township.

“Natural Resources Officers were called Saturday night when a boat capsized with three people on board.

“Two people swam to shore and are expected to survive.

“Officers, with assistance from Plymouth Township and Shelby first responders, searched for the third person.

“That person was found Sunday afternoon. The name of the deceased is not being released.

“ODNR reminds watercraft users to operate their equipment responsibly, always wear a life jacket and pay close attention to local conditions and posted advisories.

“Visit watercraft.ohiodnr.gov/lifejackets to learn more.”

Voicemails were left Sunday evening with Bob Ball, chief investigator at the Richland County Coroner’s Office, and Plymouth Fire Chief Richard Metzger regarding the pending investigation.
