Gearold Leroy Smith, 82, of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly on Friday afternoon, October 20, 2023.

He was born July 10, 1941, in South Webster, Ohio to Estle and Ada (Ashley) Smith.
Gearold retired from Empire Detroit Steel with over 30 years of service. He raised Dachshund’s for many years becoming a top breeder and winning many “Best in Show” awards. After retirement, Gearold enjoyed spending time at the lake camping and fishing off his pontoon boat with his 3 little dogs. Gearold played darts in the winter months, even taking 3rd place in the State Dart Tournament with his son, Bret. He supported many local clubs including, Sons and Daughters of Herman, Mansfield Liederkranz, Moose, and Amvets Post 26.

He is survived by his sons, Bret (Tonya) Smith of Mansfield Ohio, and Tracey (Karla) Smith of Tomball, Texas; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; longtime friend, Betty Glover; and numerous close cousins.

He was proceeded in death by his father, Estle Smith; mother, Ada (Ashley) Smith; and brother, Ralph “Melvin” Smith.

No services are planned at this time.
