A picture of Richard Craig Shumaker

BELLVILLE:  Richard Craig Shumaker, age 69, of Bellville passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.

He was born June 1, 1954 in Mansfield to Curtis and Wanetta (Rinehart) Shumaker and graduated from Clear Fork High School in 1972.  Athletic, Craig played football and was on the wrestling team.  He married his high school sweetheart, Nora Fellure  Sept. 7, 1974.  Together they celebrated 48 years of marriage raising their two daughters.

For 39 years, Craig worked as a press operator at Shiloh Tool and Die.  Outside of work, Craig and Nora were always busy following their children and later their grandchildren to sporting events and extra-curricular activities.

Craig loved owning and riding motorcycles, owning several over the years, his most recent baby was a 2004 Harley Davidson Deuce.  He was an avid supporter of fundraising rides with the AMVETS Riders.  Often Craig could be found in the Clear Fork River fly fishing under the blue bridge, or perched on the banks with his tackle box.  He delighted in fishing and target shooting, and had a soft spot for animals.

He will be remembered as a caring husband and father who never told his loved ones “good-bye” but rather ended phone calls or visits with “See ya later”.

He is survived by his wife Nora of Bellville, daughters and sons-in-law Nicole and Adam Au and Michelle and Eric Oswalt all of Fredericktown; grandchildren Paige Oswalt, Shelby Oswalt, Ella Au and Anna Au; a sister Diana Nidiffer of Pennsylvania extended family and many friends.

In addition to his parents Craig was preceded in death by two sisters Brenda Hood and Sharon Hazen.

Friends may call Monday, July 31, 2023 from 12 to 2 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where a memorial service honoring Craig will follow at 2 pm.  Private interment will be in Bellville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
