Charles Shepherd

Charles Shepherd, age 77, passed away Friday, July 21, 2023 in Mansfield, Ohio surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 7, 1946 to Boyd and Oma Shepherd in New Haven, he had been an area resident for the majority of his life. A 1965 graduate of Shelby High School, he then went on to work at ArcellorMittal “The Tuby” as a steel worker and had also served the Lord as a minister. From 1966 to 1972, Charles proudly served his country through the Ohio National Guard.

In his free time, Charles enjoyed woodworking, gardening, listening to music, and was a devout Christian.

He is survived by his wife, Roberta; children, Robert (Rosa) Shepherd of Willard, Anthony Shepherd of Fort Wayne, IN, Tamara (Eric) Kelley of Mansfield, Charles (Ruthie) Shepherd of Shelby, Sarah (Nathan) McKinney of Ashland, and Matthew (Xochitl) Shepherd of Mansfield. Due to the passing of Roberta’s sister, Shirley, Charles and Roberta raised her four children as their own, Kimberly (Brad Baker) Williams of Mansfield, Steven (Monica) Wallace of Mansfield, Kelly Lane of Georgia, and Dorothy Carver of Willard. Additional survivors include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Ralph (Ginny) Shepherd of Mansfield, Garth (Rosemary) Shepherd of Washington, DC, Richard Shepherd of Shelby, Betty Bowman of Michigan, Marietta (Darrell) Baker of Shelby, Marvin (Barbara) Shepherd of Shelby, Wanda Adams of Defiance, Faye (Mike) Fried of Shelby; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Ronita Shepherd; son-in-law, Silas Williams; and siblings, Grady Shepherd, and Patty Cooper.

Visitation will be held Wednesday July 26, 2023 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory from 12:00PM-1:00PM. A funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Gary Adkins officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to OhioHealth Hospice at 800 Mcconnell Rd, Columbus, OH 43214.
