SHELBY — He ranked among the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference leaders in virtually every offensive category and pitched Shelby to a share of the MOAC championship.
Marshall Shepherd was rewarded accordingly.
Shepherd was selected the MOAC Player of the Year when the All-MOAC teams were released last week.
Shelby’s Jon Amicone was selected the MOAC Coach of the Year after the Whippets won their final 10 conference games to finish 10-2 in MOAC play.
A three-sport standout, Shepherd batted .473 and led the MOAC with 33 runs batted in. On the mound he was 5-0 with a 1.63 earned run average and 42 strikeouts.
Shepherd was joined on the MOAC first team by teammates Blaine Bowman and Marek Albert. Bowman was 5-0 with a 1.31 ERA and 42 strikeouts while Albert batted .460 with 25 RBIs.
Ontario shared the MOAC title with Shelby. Caden Armstrong, Owen Hatfield and Gage Weaver all were first team picks for the Warriors. Armstrong was 3-1 on the hill with a 3.56 ERA, while Hatfield batted .351 with 16 stolen bases. Weaver batted a team-high .377 with 17 RBIs.
Galion’s Brody Symsick and Carter Kienath both earned spots on the first team. Symsick lead the MOAVC with a .509 batting average and struck out 44 while going 2-1, while Kienath batted .415 and was 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 30 strikeouts on the mound.
Jared Scott was Clear Fork’s representative on the first team. Scott batted .354 and was 3-0 on the mound with a 1.27 ERA and 38 strikeouts.
Area second team selections were Galion’s Spencer Keller, Troy Manring and Wilson Frankhouse, Shelby’s Luke Shepherd and Logan Green, Ontario’s Colten Ramion and Clear Fork’s Kaleb Hollar and David Ballinger.
Honorable mention selections included Doran Steele, Galion’s Matthew McMullen, Clear Fork’s Ben Blubaugh and Ontario’s Kyle Walters.
